EU-funded project
Digital Low Emission Brake: funded by the European Union and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Digital Low Emission Brake
The Digital Low Emission Brake project is developing an economical and sustainable process chain for the laser-based coating of brake discs using High-Speed Directed Energy Deposition (HS-DED). Particularly wear- and corrosion-resistant coating systems are intended to significantly reduce particulate and CO₂ emissions.
For cost-efficient series production, the project combines the adaptation of the coating systems with optimized post-processing. In addition, a digital quality assurance framework is being created, consisting of infrared monitoring, active thermography and data fusion in a QA cloud.
Project objectives
- Significant reduction of manufacturing costs while maintaining the highest quality
- Development of improved coating systems and process control for economical series production
- Establishment of robust inline quality assurance for early defect detection
- Ensuring reproducible and scalable production
