Laser cladding for brake discs
High-speed laser cladding with a specific powder mix turns a grey cast iron disc into a hard coated disc: wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant and with up to 83% less fine dust, developed with Euro 7 in mind.
Brake disc hard coating: high-tech meets responsibility
At the heart of our technology is the high-speed laser deposition process (LMD), also known as high-speed laser cladding. This technology is flexible, competitive, highly developed and ready for series production for Euro 7 and forms the basis of our brake disc hard coating. It ensures maximum precision and process reliability in industrial applications.
Laser cladding creates a metallurgical bond that ensures a material-locking connection between the coating and substrate. The result is hard coatings of exceptional quality: durable, resilient and ideal for series production.
Thanks to the exact energy input of the laser, we work with maximum process precision: minimal heat-affected zones, low deformation and optimum coating properties. This enables us to achieve a uniform thickness, high hardness and defined surface roughness, for constant coefficients of friction and maximum quality.
Your advantages at a glance:
- Highest coating quality & perfect adhesion
- Euro 7 and REACH compliant
- Efficient series process & sustainable
- Process flexibility for gray cast iron, steel and various materials
Since 2020, we have been a reliable project partner for OE and Tier 1 to 3 within the framework of the Euro 7 standard. As a series supplier of coated brake discs, we actively contribute to making modern brake systems more sustainable, more efficient and future-proof.

- SafeTested on bench, tracks and road, on different platforms and pad combinations.
- ReliableSeveral endurance tests run. Never failed. Performance, NVH, corrosion: we got it all covered.
- GreenIndependent tests show ≈73% less fine dust (PM10) and ≈83% less fine dust (PM2.5) emitted.

Euro 7 (EU7): limits for fine dust from braking
With Euro 7, Regulation (EU) 2024/1257, often shortened to EU7, the EU limits brake dust for the first time: the fine dust (PM10) released when braking.
- 7 mg/kmfine dust PM10 from braking for most combustion and hybrid cars and vans.
- 11 mg/kmfor large combustion-engine vans.
- 3 mg/kmfor pure electric vehicles.
The limits apply to the type approval of new vehicles. Since 2020, GOTEC has been developing laser cladding for Euro 7 together with OEM and tier partners. With the GOTEC LongLife hard coated disc, your fleet benefits today: significantly less fine dust, without waiting for new vehicles.

Built for everyday fleet use
- ICE vehiclesFocus on wear, service intervals, brake cost per kilometre and downtime.
- BEV vehiclesRegenerative braking means less mechanical braking, which makes the disc’s corrosion resistance all the more important.
- All weather conditionsDesigned for robust use in summer, winter and wet conditions.
- Fewer emissionsUp to 83% less fine dust from braking.
What is a hard coated disc?
A brake disc with a hard coating: laser cladding applies a hard, metallurgically bonded layer to the friction surface of the grey cast iron disc. It wears much more slowly, does not rust and produces less fine dust.
Is the GOTEC LongLife disc Euro 7 compliant?
Euro 7 (EU7) sets limits for fine dust from braking. They are verified in the type approval of new vehicles, not for individual replacement parts. Our laser cladding technology is being developed for Euro 7 with OEM and tier partners; the GOTEC LongLife disc brings this benefit to your fleet today, with ≈73% less fine dust (PM10) and ≈83% less fine dust (PM2.5) in independent tests.
Is the disc approved for road use?
Yes. The brake disc is approved under ECE R90 (approval E1*90R02/12/C*4270/2558*00, German Federal Motor Transport Authority). Which vehicle variants are covered is clarified in the application mapping.
Which vehicles is it designed for?
For light commercial vehicles in brake-intensive use, especially last-mile and delivery fleets. Which part number fits your vehicle variant is clarified in the application mapping.
Do I still need to change the pads?
Pad changes are still needed, but much less often: the model assumes around 100,000 km pad life. The disc works with any pads, original and aftermarket.
How reliable are the target values?
The life and cost values are model assumptions from GOTEC documentation. That is why we offer the Fleet Pilot: it verifies the values under your real operating conditions.
Is the technology also suitable for electric vehicles?
Yes. With BEVs, regenerative braking means less mechanical braking. Standard discs therefore corrode more easily, the coating protects the friction surface.
